Alice, Alice, why did you go? I told you not to go, you know!
You silly girl, you silly child, you should have stayed
You'd be alive
But you went into the snow
What did you find in the field of white, in the raging blizzard storm?
Not the dog you were looking for but a thing out of the norm?
Alice, my girl! What happened to you?
What split your jaw in half!
What split your face in two!
A four quartered head and my little Alice dead!
What could have happened to you?
So we buried her there, 'neath dogwood fair
Stitched together with great care
Her face was whole - or seemed to be
But when we went back
The grave was empty...
